About Us
European Taekkyeon Union
We are a union dedicated to promoting Taekkyeon, a traditional Korean martial art registered with UNESCO, to Europe and fostering mutual development.
The history of Taekkyeon in the country together with the European Taekgyeon Union
European Taekkyeon Union became known in Europe in 2013 when Master Byun Seung-jin held a four-week invitational seminar in Zurich, Switzerland.
Poland
Poland became known in 2016 when Masters Byun Seung-jin and Choi Kyu-yong held their first three-week invitational seminar.In 2019, a Taekkyeon demonstration team visited Gdansk, and currently, Taekkyeon is being practiced at three clubs in Gdansk. One of them is a Taekkyeon club specializing in children.
This is the country where the 1st European Taekkyon Championship was held.
Portugal
Portugal has been practicing Taekkyeon in Gondomar and Rosada since the 2021 Taekkyeon seminar.
It is also the host country for the 2nd and 3rd European Taekkyeon Championships.
Spain
Spain held a Taekkyeon seminar in 2025 and began formal training in Santa Paula in 2026.
France
In France, starting with a training visit to the Taekkyeon Training Center in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, Korea in 2019, promotional activities for the traditional martial art Taekkyeon were carried out at the ‘Festival Corée d’ici,’ a Korean cultural festival held in Montpellier in 2022, and Taekkyeon education began for youths at Foncarade Middle School, Revolution Middle School, Jean Monnet High School, and Jules Guessed International High School.
Greece
In Greece, starting training in 2017, Master Georgios Emmanouilidis obtained his 1st Dong (Black Belt) in 2025 and continues to practice and teach Taekkyeon.
